CSA International, Inc. (CSA) has initiated a program to develop a remediation methodology that can be successfully utilized with marine sediments that have been subjected to excessive loading with organic compounds, particularly in deepwater environments where biodegradation processes are slowed due to low temperature.  To address this problem and in consideration of the inherent difficulties associated with working in deepwater, CSA has combined proven mechanical and biologic technologies to be applied in a unique way.

CSA has assembled the engineering and scientific team to take the program forward and has now completed the Preliminary Design Effort.  The concept incorporates proven subsea equipment modified to deploy specific tools developed by the program to properly restore the deepwater seabed through the use of both mechanical and biological systems.

“The capability and capacity advancement of free flying and seabed crawling remotely operated vehicles (ROVs) has finally allowed us to deploy technology to the seabed in a way not previously possible,” stated Kevin Peterson, President and CEO of CSA.  “By combining proven ROV tooling technology with the application of known biological compounds, we’re able to positively effect the remediation of marine sediments, speeding up its natural recovery.”

Phase II of the program includes a Pilot Study, during which the efficacy of the prototype will be evaluated in the lab.  Phase III will build and test the full size tooling required to be deployed by ROVs of opportunity.

Mr. Gordon StevensCSA International, Inc. (CSA) is pleased to announce that it has appointed Mr. Gordon Stevens as General Manager of the STEP Program (Scientific Tools & Equipment Pool).  The STEP Program is equipped and staffed to immediately respond to a wide range of emergencies in the Gulf of Mexico and around the world.  Meeting or exceeding the highest in HSSE requirements, STEP personnel are trained in proper Chain-of-Custody and other Natural Resource Damage Assessment (NRDA) methodologies.

“Mr. Stevens established and has managed our Louisiana operations since 2010,” stated Kevin Peterson, CEO of CSA.  “His experience and capability is uniquely suited to head up the STEP Emergency Response Program.”

Members of the STEP Program will have immediate access to specialized scientific equipment and trained staff ready to mobilize on a vessel of opportunity.  A member that draws on the STEP inventory and services would pay pre?established rates for equipment and personnel on an as-used basis.  Access to the STEP Program eliminates the need to ramp up equipment and services in an emergency situation and the purchase of response-specific equipment that may not be used again.  Additionally, STEP members will be able to demonstrate to regulatory agencies and other stakeholders their readiness to respond to the environmental aspect of an emergency situation.

CSA International, Inc. (CSA) and EGS Survey Group (EGS) are pleased to announce the formation of a new Joint Venture Company, EGS Metocean Sound Sciences (MSS).  The Joint Venture Company brings together the extensive experience of both CSA and EGS in conducting large, technical marine surveys, including oceanographic programs worldwide.

MSS will provide metocean and acoustic monitoring services, including consultancy and the collection of high-quality data to assist in engineering, design, daily marine operations, planning, and management for offshore exploration, field development, ports and harbors, and cable and pipeline routes.

Based out of Houston, Texas, the senior management team includes Mr. Andy Brown as Commercial Director and Rick Cole as Technical Director.  MSS will provide services through the existing offices of both CSA and EGS in Australia, Brazil, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Philippines, Qatar, Singapore, Trinidad, UAE, the United States, the United Kingdom, and Vietnam.

CSA International, Inc. (CSA) is pleased to announce that it is a proud sponsor of the 2011 American Shore & Beach Preservation Association (ASBPA) National Coastal Conference: "Expanding Coastal Horizons" to be held 18-21 October in New Orleans, Louisiana.  The theme of the 2011 conference, Expanding Coastal Horizons, recognizes that coastal issues extend beyond the narrow strip where waves wash ashore.  Coastal protection also includes inland marshes, bays, estuaries, and offshore areas (including offshore energy) and is governed and funded by an expanding array of stakeholders.

Over the last century, erosion of Florida’s sandy beaches has become a serious issue due to the creation and deepening of navigational inlets, construction of jetties, seawalls and other structures, and natural causes such as severe storms and hurricanes.  Environmental services associated with beach restoration and renourishment projects throughout the State of Florida have been an integral component of CSA’s Coastal and Ocean Sciences Business Line for over 30 years.  During this timeframe, beach restoration programs have been at the forefront of Florida’s beach management programs in order to restore sandy beach resources and protect upland properties.
