CSA International, Inc., a marine environmental consulting firm, is a leader in Marine Environmental Sciences and Services and has completed a record number of coral reef mitigation projects worldwide, including vessel grounding and nearshore construction projects that require the use of coral reef restoration techniques to alleviate or minimize impacts to coral reef systems. Project-related impacts include both the direct destruction of habitats that support coral colonies and the indirect degradation of adjacent coral reefs. To mitigate these impacts, CSA International, Inc. has successfully transplanted and reattached approximately 40,000 living coral colonies domestically and internationally. Notably, on a recent project, CSA International, Inc. removed 4,500 coral colonies from a construction corridor, transported them 45 km to a designated donor site, and reattached the colonies. CSA International, Inc. is currently monitoring the transplanted corals, which, to date, have achieved a survival rate of over 99%. Other mitigation projects have included the installation of artificial reefs, topographic reconstruction of damaged coral reef framework, and the stabilization and/or removal of loose rubble caused by the disruption of substrate from vessel groundings.

CSA provides mitigation and restoration services to government, oil & gas, telecom, commercial, and industrial customers on a worldwide basis.  Services include ecological site assessments, restoration planning, monitoring design, and the implementation of turn-key projects.

CSA International, Inc., a marine environmental consulting firm, is expanding its Navy Business Line, including the addition of Mr. William Sloger, who recently served as the head of NAVFAC’s Southeast Section for NEPA compliance.

Mr. Sloger served the U.S. Navy’s NAVFAC Southeast Environmental Planning Branch for 18 years prior to retiring from the Navy and joining CSA. He brings with him a wealth of experience and capability in the preparation and management of large NEPA documents such as Environmental Impact Statements and Environmental Assessments. Will’s career with the Navy has also given him a level of insight into the Navy’s mission that will greatly enhance CSA International, Inc.’s ability to respond appropriately to Navy requirements. His arrival is expected to substantially benefit the development of CSA International, Inc.’s Navy Business Line.

In response to the growing requirement to quickly identify potential landing sites for pipelines, fiber optic cables, power cables, LNG terminals, water system intakes and other offshore installations, CSA International, Inc., a marine environmental consulting firm, has developed a unique Benthic Habitat Mapping Capability utilizing the latest technology in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Satellite Imagery and other Remote Sensing technologies. This GIS and Remote Sensing capability is combined with CSA International, Inc.’s proven field operations, providing towed, ROV-based and diver deployed high-resolution imagery systems to ground-truth the satellite imagery.

CSA International, Inc.’s unique ability to conduct “desktop” surveys utilizing the latest technology in GIS and satellite imagery then ground-truth those findings with proven underwater survey techniques provides the offshore industry with a fast track and integrated solution to its offshore and nearshore mapping requirements.

“The further integration of GIS and remote sensing capability into our company has allowed us to significantly reduce both time and cost of benthic habitat mapping projects,” stated Kevin Peterson, CEO of CSA International, Inc.  “We have over 37 years of data collected from oceans in every region of the world. Having the ability to now integrate that information into state-of-the-art GIS systems is providing our customers with a powerful and truly unique tool."
